Magdalena Abaknowicz

Polish artists are increasingly appreciated abroad. More and more often we hear about new Polish art price records abroad. Undoubtedly, this ranking leads the Roman Opalka, due to the set of three works entitled 'Details’. In 2010, it was auctioned in the auction house ’Sotheby’s’ in London for the amount over 713 000 pounds, making this one the most expensive sold-work of an living-polish-artist in origin. But you can not forget about such names as Magdalena Abaknowicz or Igor Mitoraj – sculptors whose works achieve equally spectacular results at foreign auctions. Works of Polish artists are exhibited keenly in western museums or galleries, and are also extremely valued by private collectors.

For several years, much confusion reigns about the work of the ‘Ladnie’ group. The work of three artists inspired by color, gossip magazines, comics and daily life in tandem. Contemporary art is not only young, living artists but also (and perhaps especially) post-war masters such as Tadeusz Dominik and Władysław Hasior, whose exhibition is currently on display in Krakow Museum of Contemporary Art. Hasior’s works – one of the most outstanding Polish artists of post-war avant-garde – enjoy tremendous attention among collectors recently. Despite the many controversies surrounding his work – and perhaps because of it, there is still growing interest in his works.
